Reading the classic Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte made me want to read more than ever, the classics from a long list of books I have that I feel everyone (or at least me) should read. I have quite a few checked off the list, but many more that I don't. Through the groups discussion, we compared Bronte's Wuthering Heights to her sister's novel, Jane Eyre, and then to the novels of Jane Austen. I am now listening to Jane Eyre and really enjoying it. After that, I will move on to Austen. The one thing that surprised me about Wuthering Heights was how dark it was. I had always assumed it was a romance novel, I did not realize it was a gothic romance novel, filled with revenge. There have many movie versions made from the book. A movie never quite does a book justice. I only watched one, and I therefore, I can only speak for the one I watched. I saw the one where Laurence Olivier plays Heathcliff, and I must say, though they leave out a good deal of the end of the book, I did enjoy the movie very much. Here are some interesting tidbits on Wuthering Heights:
